Bright’n Rock…

Rochus Jacob Murakami Chair

Rochus Jacob has produced some awesome designs, but this seriously blows my frock up…The Murakami Chair is a rocking chair that self-generates electricity for the reading lamp.

New, more efficient light sources – such as the newly developed OLEDs – make it possible to build a rocking chair with nano-dynamo technology type stuff (does it sound like I know what I’m talking about yet?) built into the skids, providing a reading lamp running on electricity generated from the rocking motion. During daylight the energy gets stored in a battery pack. The new forms of flat and bendable organic light-emitting diodes allow for poetic licence with the shape of the light source as well, so just for a bit of a mind-bender, instead of using a bulb, the lampshade acts as a light. Cool runnings huh?
